Roman holds a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands. After his PhD, Roman was awarded an IRCSET postdoctoral fellowship to continue his research at the Cork Constraint Computation Centre (4C) at University College Cork, Ireland. There, he built a successful track record in solving complex optimization problems for companies including Intel, Alcatel-Lucent, Bausch & Lomb, and the Irish Navy, chronicled in over 40 publications in conferences and journals. Roman left academia in 2010 to focus on his role as the lead engineer for ThinkSmart Technologies, a university spinout he helped start. After it got acquired by Cisco Systems in 2012, he spent the next 5 years there, most recently working as a Senior Technical Leader building the core analytics engine for Cisco’s next generation big data platform.
